Glenkinchie Distillery - 12 Year Old Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

By Jim • Jul 29th, 2009 • Category: Whisky Tastings

It is still Tuesday 21st July 2009, but it is a little later in the evening, the Amrut being quite a surprise, we now move onto a Lowland Single Malt.

This is Dougie’s bottle for tasting this evening, and Nicola’s eyes brightened up, she was able to see it was not a peated malt.

The home for this wee dram is Glenkinchie Distillery in the village of Pencaitland which is only about 14/15 miles outside Edinburgh. Being so close to Scotland’s capital the label proudly states “The Edinburgh Malt”

Owner, Diageo

This is a very well visited distillery and every one should check out their website for directions and opening times, certainly on our list for a visit, soon.

Dougie’s bottle for tasting is:-

Glenkinchie Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 12 Years Old 42% Alc/volglenkinchie12yearold-singlemaltwhisky

The tasting

Colour…Rich Pale Gold.

Dougie’s tasting

Nose…Light vanilla with even lighter grassiness.

Taste…Smooth yet unexpectedly spicey with honey and sherry coming through.

Finish…Quickly gone, where did it go?

Jim’s tasting

Nose…Vanilla touch but very light in the aroma department.

Taste…Dry and slightly smokey - very smooth, what a great aperitif.

Finish…A little malty but too short.

Nicola’s tasting

Nose…Vanilla sweetness and aroma of light perfume.

Taste…Exceptionally smooth, very comfortable to drink and sweet.

Finish…Short finish but sophisticated and satisfying.

Well by all our comments that went down very well indeed, smooth, sophisticated and a great aperitif are some of the great comments.

Jim and Dougie now have a bottle of this great 12 year old in our cabinets, should be a regular in everyone else’s.

This dram is available in many supermarkets and all Whisky Shops, Jim and Dougie got theirs at Tesco, Cumbernauld.

As always if you go out and purchase a bottle remember to tell them the Whisky Boys sent you, enjoy this wee dram.
